Europipe 997.2 Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S Exhaust Review

EUROPIPE is a renowned name that revolves around providing performance exhaust systems for Porsche 911’s. If you drive a 996, 997, 997.2 Carrera S, Turbo, or Turbo S and possess any type of enthusiasm for this machine, then I’m sure that you’ve heard about EUROPIPE exhaust..

This exhaust system is on the mind of every 911 driver. It’s THE exhaust for Carreras. We’ve heard a several instances where Porsche owners purchased more than one exhaust system for their car, then ended up selling their old exhaust for a fraction of the cost. Then ended up purchasing a EUROPIPE exhaust for the Turbo, Turbo S, GT3, and Carrera S. There is obviously a reason for that. For instance, a typical Porsche owner pays between $80,000 and $160,000 for their car. So this car is a major investment (for the lack of better term), the least thing that can be done is adding a quality performance exhaust system. Instead of trying to save a few hundred dollars where it matters most. Some drivers pay more for one aftermarket wheel than their whole exhaust system. I’m sure that you get my point by now.

Some might say, most exhaust systems are pretty much the same? How much difference does it really make? …It makes a huge difference to have the best exhaust on the market, a system that is made sepecifically for your car. EUROPIPE makes exhaust systems for Carreras only, not even Boxsters or Caymans. Similarly how refined Porsche has made the 911 over the past decades. The same goes for this exhaust system. The amount of quality, performance, and refinement this exhaust has is unmatched.

Build Quality, Performance, and Sound. Made out of 100% high quality stainless steel construction that is manufactured to rival the highest OEM quality standards. That is clearly evident in the quality of the welds (see images for more details). It doesn’t stop here, the system is equipped with 100 CPSI (Cells Per Square Inch) sport catalytic converters with huge 3.35″ (85mm) transition pipes, that increase exhaust flow, while reducing weight by an estimated 14lbs for the full system. Weight reduction is one of the most important factors for getting your aft-heavy 997.2 Turbo and Turbo S’s front/back weight distribution in check. Furthermore, the cats even feature heat shields that prevent heat transfer to the neighboring components, reducing stress and thermal aging of the surroundings.

This exhaust increases engine performance by an impressive 23 horsepower, with a resulting maximum back-pressure of 2.2 PSI (0.15 bar). Throttle response is also improved, which is noticeable throughout the rev range. The guys at EUROPIPE spent a great deal of time and effort acoustically tuning this exhaust system to eliminate droning at cruising speeds and at slower traffic speeds. Expect minimal sound level change at idle when the engine is warm, and a louder exhaust note at cold starts. The exhaust sounds much deeper and throatier at mid to wide open throttle (WOT) than stock, but without being too loud or irritating.

The sound pitch changes naturally as you switch up and down through the gears. This system is drone-free at lower RPMs, at higher-gear low-speed cruising in town or on the freeway. As a driver, the only way to appreciate the absence of annoying exhaust drone is by driving or riding along in a rear-engined car that has exhaust that drones. As a matter of fact, that applies to any car that has an aftermarket exhaust. Even your passengers would thank you for a base-free cabin, which in turn reduces fatigue on longer drives.

If you’re looking for the absolutely best sounding, street legal, aftermarket performance exhaust that is tailor made for your factory boosted 997.2, this is it. Click here to see latest EUROPIPE pricing.

Installation. If you’re a DIY kinda person, installation is straight forward. EUROPIPE provides installation instructions as well as the needed special tool. Make sure you have a standard metric wrench and socket tool set (you should already have this in your toolbox). Installation time is around 4 hours which requires removing the rear bumper. To avoid scratches on the bumper, have a friend hold the rear bumper in place while you remove the bumper fasteners. Then apply some WD-40 or a similar penetrating oil to the nuts securing the mufflers around the turbos, and let them soak for 15 minutes. Un-clip the O2 sensor plugs, remove them. Remove the nuts and studs carefully. New studs, nuts, and gaskets are supplied with the new exhaust, so no worries there. Reverse the above steps, and make sure to remove the stock 60 mm exhaust tips and install them on the EUROPIPE exhaust. If you don’t feel like getting your hands dirty, your local Porsche dealer will be able to install this exhaust in a few hours, and should cost no more than a couple of oil changes.
